Map: Cohort II Current Locations Map: Cohort III Current Locations Fifth Annual Hawaii Pacific University Turtle Workshop STRETCH RESOURCES AND INFORMATION Questions????: email - mrice@hpa.edu October 30, 2025 DIVING CHARACTERISTICS Moana Kai and Pericu (Cohort II loggerheads with Splash 10 diving data tags) have been in pelagic waters off of BCP for nearly 8 months now and I thought it might be interesting to look at their diving patterns during that time. As the graph below shows, Moana Kai spends about 88% of its time on the surface from 0401to1600 hours (daytime) compared with only 30% during the nighttime hours, spending nearly 69 % of the time during the night at between 5 and 20 meters depth. Pericu's dive patterns are similar in that it spends 86% of its time on the surface during the day and 30% during the night. During the night, it spends 54% of its time at depths between 5-20 meters.
