January 29, 2026 LOSS OF CONTACT I was thinking about why we lose contact with our little STRETCH loggerhead turtles and decided to take a closer look at the number of days the turtle transmitted locations and the battery voltage at the end of transmission. Below is a table of Cohort I (25 juvenile loggerheads) set to transmit 250 times a day. It shows the "First Data Date" the "Last Data Date", the number of days transmitting and the last ~battery voltage. Generally, any voltage below 3 v would mean that the battery is near end of life and transmisstions would stop. We see that only two turtles stopped transmitting when the voltage was above 3 v and 23 c...
